In case you missed the information for how to check if your advisor is registered with your provincial securities commission yesterday, the last entry showed the process for those living in the Yukon. It was also the only one which didn’t have a link to the commissions’ website.
Why you ask?
Well, their Disclaimer page indicates that no one is allowed to create or provide links or hyperlinks without written authorization from the Yukon Securities Office.
In reality, I’m sure it’s something they would be happy to correct, and I imagine they would never go after someone for linking to them or any of their pages – but in the meantime, think about how silly a policy like that is: If you google “Yukon Securities Office”, the search page provides a link – and I doubt Google has written permission from the commission. So technically, the Yukon Securities Office should be very angry with Google. :P
They should be just fine with me though. Look Ma! No links!
Wise idea, Preet. The last thing you’d want to do as a blogger is provide a link to a government web site with a disclaimer that prohibits linking. On the other hand, I, as a commenter, feel no such compunction, thanks to a rather important document I once read about on Wikipedia.
What if you link to their disclaimer policy to prove it’s real? :)
I found this article very amusing. It seems counterintuitive that a government site would prohibit links to its site, especially when that site is set up to benefit the public.
