A belated Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! I took a few minutes before family started arriving to shoot over to CTV for a quick interview with Jacqueline Milczarek on CTV News Channel. We chatted about Greece, short term and long term investing and if you should buy gold. When you click on the link, please note that you will have to watch a 30 second advertisement before the clip starts to play. The segment is just under 6 minutes in length. Thanks to CTV for the opportunity.

Nice job with the interview. There seems to be no way to convey the idea to some people that short-term moves in stocks can't be predicted. They will seem to understand and then ask you to speculate about short-term stock moves. A colleague asked me about what trading I did, and I replied that I was a long-term investor who makes only a few trades per year. He then proceeded to ask me if I use level 2 quotes and what my trading strategy is. Some messages just can't be received by some people.

A great interview. It's nice to see someone on TV putting forward intelligent and realistic advice.

I hear you on that. I've told some people about my preference for short term investment options (GICs, savings accounts, and things of that nature), given them the rationale, and people will then tell me about some story of a friend who had a great short term gain in some stock and ask if there are any other stocks like that right now.

Thanks Traciatim! Looks like I may be on there again in the future, hopefully I can contribute by serving as, at least, a foil to all the prognosticators that normally get all the air time. Prudent investing isn't sexy enough I guess…
