Since I started my column at The Globe and Mail, and now that I’m also writing features for MoneySense magazine, my writing itch is being sufficiently scratched. That explains the lack of written content on the blog. But I’ve had other itches – podcasting, and now vlogging.
You’ve no doubt seen the podcast episodes as they are embedded onto the blog. I’m pleased to announce that the podcast just reached 125,000 all time downloads. The top episodes have been downloaded over 10,000 times and the average is about 5,000. Either number is larger than the subscriber base to the blog. I didn’t expect that. There’s still room to grow though :)
Next up is a totally different beast: a vlog.
It would be a waste to vlog about content similar to what I used to write about on this blog. The blog allowed me to get nerdy at times. I don’t think I can really do that on video. That medium lends itself to a totally different skill set and approach. That’s where I’m hoping you can help.
I’m looking for your suggestions on everything to do with the vlog: length, name, should it just be hosted on YouTube, or should I set up a new site, etc. I know my readers have a diverse background – some are experts in social media, others have skill in video production, others just know what type of content they would watch (and their friends would watch). So feel free to chime in with suggestions – I would appreciate it. I have a rough idea as to what it will end up being, at least to start, but I know it will evolve a lot in the first few months. I already think the name has to change.
In any case, here’s the first vlog in the series – basically it was just to see if I could figure out how to put one together. I hope you’ll consider subscribing to the YouTube channel – it can only get better from here ;)

Short vblogs are a great idea. You can even go for 2 min sometimes if the topic requires a little more time to explain. I think the appropriate name works well.
