The folks at The Globe and Mail asked me to suggest some personal finance blogs to be nominated for 2011. Specifically, I was asked to pick some that were not the perennial favourites, and that focused more on personal finance as opposed to investing – which many blogs do even though they bill themselves as “personal finance”.
I’m glad no one nominated me for either category as my blog has been non-existent since I started writing for the Globe myself (partly as a result -I think- for winning last year’s best investing blog). I’ve gotten even busier lately, but hopefully by the summer I will be back in the swing of blogging regularly. In the meantime, something had to give.
Luckily there are many fine candidates to choose from in this year’s competition.

Thanks a ton for nominating us Preet.
Non-financial types, eh? ;) In a PF blog poll! Hehehe.
We do add some finances into our discussions about housing, being green and our purchase decisions.
I hope to get some articles up about SRI soon too.

Most welcome – and well deserved.

Hi Preet,
My wife and I enjoyed reading your Globe article on May 24 about rip off artists since we (I) just recently signed up for a new water heater long term rental. In retrospect and after reading the article it looks like we have been taken.
My question is do you have any suggestions about getting out of this commitment?
I suggest that a lot of your readers will have the same question. What a good subject for another article.
Cheers, John

Hi John, sorry to hear you may have been taken. That is a great follow up suggestion. Let me do some digging and see what I can come up with. I’m hoping it’s not what I think: that you are stuck with a 15 year contract or hefty termination fees plus paying for the removal of the tank on your own dime.
Thanks for reading.
