NOTE: If you find yourself at Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke, Ontario, go to Bar Freddo and tell them you heard about them on the Mostly Money, Mostly Canadian podcast and you’ll get a free regular sized gelato or coffee.
Alec Chalvardjian had a successful career in advertising sales until the industry started to evolve, and he found himself downsized out of a job. Luckily, he had managed his personal finances soundly and had the capacity to pursue his passion and start his own business. He temporarily moved to Italy to train to learn how to make authentic gelato and set up shop at Sherway Gardens’ new “Gourmet Fare” food court, located in Etobicoke, Ontario.
Our conversation was wide ranging, from talking about how advertisers measured success in the days when there were only a few TV channels and how that’s changed today, to a passionate discussion about gelato and pizza, to how Alec views the world of financial advice from the eyes of an outsider to the industry.

It is always valuable to see and listen how a client sees your service, what they value, what they are missing. That is what the marketing departments of every financial institution should be focusing on. Clients are the ones that tell us directly and most honestly how good (or bad) we are.
Thanks for this great podcast.
