If you are new to WhereDoesAllMyMoneyGo.com, every Friday I run a post called “A Lap Of The Blogs” which provides links to articles I found interesting and think that others may want to read for themselves. I also include some commentary on what’s going on in my personal life and a weekly “racing video” since my former life was in the auto-racing industry. The name “Lap of the Blogs” is in reference to “A Lap Of The Gods” which is an old video series which chronicled on-board footage of the world’s greatest F1 drivers lapping various racetracks from around the world.
I’m going to be away for most of next week visiting Dimensional Fund Advisors in Santa Monica on a due diligence trip. I know some of the readers of this blog are interested in DFA’s (which are the enhanced index funds that Dimensional Fund Advisors offers) and I’ll be blogging about DFA’s in the near future. In the meantime, I may not be attending to comments next week as I’m also taking the opporunity to take a small break as my brother lives not too far away near Malibu.
A Lap Of The Blogs
I’m sure the market action of late has been on many people’s minds, so this week’s lap of the blogs includes some timely advice and food for thought about the trying times…

This Week’s Racing Video
This week I’ve picked a drag racing video which shows just how much energy is transmitted through the tires upon the launch from the line. Look how much the tires wrinkle in slow motion! Some other interesting facts about top fuel dragsters: under full throttle a dragster consumes 6 litres of fuel per second and the power of the sparkplugs in one cylinder is equivalent to an arc welder.

Thanks for the link Preet. Have a nice trip.

Enjoy your trip. I know I’m looking forward to my break at the end of the month.

Preet, thanks for the link. I’ll be interested to hear what you have to say about DFA.

Cool post once again Preet,
Thanks to your Lap of The Blogs, Friday’s are now my favourite day.
To really appreciate the power of drag racing cars you’ve gotta go to a race. I recommend going at night, bring ear plugs.
Dragsters will shake your soul, here’s why:
* The nitromethane-powered engines of NHRA Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars produce approximately 7,000 horsepower, about 37 times that of the average street car? The 500-inch Hemi makes more horsepower than the first 8 rows at Daytona.
* Under full throttle, the engine consumes 1 1/2 gallons of
nitro per second, the same rate of fuel consumption as a fully loaded Boing 747 but with 4 times the energy volume. Each 1/4 mile run only lasts 4-6 seconde, this is equivalent to between 16 and 20 gallons per mile? That’s right not MPG but GPM. Nitromethane isn’t cheap either $20 per gallon or $5.28 so quit your crying about paying $1.35 L.
* From a standing start, Top Fuel dragsters accelerate faster than a jumbo jet, a fighter jet, and a Formula One race car.
* To exceed 300mph in 4.5 seconds dragsters must accelerate at an average of over 4G’s. But in reaching 250 mph well before 1/2 track, launch acceleration is closer to 8G’s.
* Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have read this sentence.
Cheers,

Thanks for the link. Too bad it wasn’t a trip to Santa Monica in Jan!
